Pandemic Family
Photography, Archival Pigment Print 20"x30"
My work explores delicate relationships—our existence as material and concept, the interweaving between two partners in love, and the bond of parent and child. The images in this series, Pandemic Identity, function as a metaphor for the relationship between a mother and her children in the midst of the pandemic. The boundaries between parent and child have become more muddled which is both rewarding and at times overwhelming. During this time when many parents, particularly, mothers, are helping to educate, entertain, and parent in the midst of working full time. This situation can feel simultaneously incredibly close and at the same time stifling. As a mother in this situation, I have never felt closer to my children and yet my work has been interrupted endlessly. There has been a mudding of the relationship between one’s personal and professional lives due to the pandemic. These images seek to explore these complexities through the exploration of a kind of shared skin.
