This is the fragility of motherhood captured in one moment. This painting represents a threshold every mother is presented with a multitude of times each day. It could mean everything to a mom who is overwhelmed in this pandemic. Sometimes it means that in just a few minutes order can again be established,(however briefly). Sometimes it means that an all-consuming chaos, which can lead to weeks or months of anxiety and depression is merely inches away. Your husband might see this and think everything is fine. However, you, the mother, see it, and it triggers a total breakdown. He doesn’t understand that you don’t have the strength of mind, body, or spirit to pivot in the direction of peace and order; and so you mourn inevitable defeat.
