This work is based on journal entries I made when pregnant and in the early days of motherhood. With the enlarged. heavy belly I wanted to imagine the foetus overtaking the mother so that all her energy is devoted to this relentless and preposterous growth. She is resigned and exhausted while simultaneously braced and open.

During this pandemic, (beyond the lack of school), life in lockdown in a rural setting with young children, was surprisingly unmarked and unchanged whilst simultaneously unrelenting, surreal and unknowable. Creating work during this time, it made sense to embrace these surreal imaginings I had sketched and written about previously, perhaps as a way to simply give them a confrontable shape.
