We hear the sound of the air rushing through 100 feet of corrugated aerosol tubing intended for oxygen to be delivered to the patient, but instead of delivering oxygen, the tubing is wrapped tight around the neck and shoulders, cutting off air supply, creating an endangerment instead of supporting the wearer. Finally, aware of the loss of oxygen, mother takes a breath, hoping to survive this of oppressive condition.
Caring for a sick child during the COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult and overwhelming. Emotional and physical exhaustion, burnout and compassion fatigue, and feeling confined are a real part of everyday life currently.
