Everyone has been affected by the events of the past year. However, no one was prepared for the impact on mental health, education, and parenting. Now, in addition to juggling all the normal roles, mothers across the country have had to homeschool their children, struggle to make ends meet, and protect their families from a deadly virus. The amount of pressure that comes with raising children, in addition to the current reality we are living has pushed many moms to their breaking point. We are tired. We are tired of waiting. We are tired of doing everything for everyone. We are tired of putting on a brave face and pretending everything is going to be okay. Mothers have become even more invisible during this pandemic, quietly juggling the roles in a difficult balancing act, all while masking feelings of immense anxiety and depression. Despite this painful fact, I am hopeful that mothers will come out of this stronger than ever. Mothers have been challenged to protect and provide for their families throughout history and we will continue to the next right thing. I am grateful that this exhibit is shedding light on the crucial but so often overlooked role of the mother in society.
