The Caesura series is being created with support from Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and Toronto Arts Council

Caesura (2018-ongoing) examines the complicated framework of the mother-daughter relationship and its connection to memory. Using large format, digital and instant photography, this series re-constructs and intertwines various remembrances, making visual the experience of seeing oneself reflected in their children’s gestures and actions. This body of work offers sequenced narratives that are ambiguous, ordinary and fleeting. Within this long-term series, a chapter entitled Observations from Isolation has developed in response to mothering in the time of COVID-19. Since my family went into quarantine on March 15, 2020, I began creating photographs of our life within the pandemic, noting the lockdown count day within the title of each image. During this strained period as time bends and compresses in unfamiliar ways, these photographs have given me a visual language that helps articulate my thoughts on an experience that I don’t yet have words to describe.
