This is what maternal exhaustion in a pandemic looks like. The headlines, numbers and protocols are ever-changing. But our children’s adaptation to the new “normal” requires tireless repetition from mothers. We must clean, comfort, adapt, change, shift, teach, all on a seemingly endless cycle. The interruption to childhood means an increase in mothering, and with each passing day we give away more and more of ourselves. What will be left of us when the pandemic ends?
